Board Members

Lynne Carey,  President

Lynne recently retired from a rewarding 36 year long career at the Ames Public Library. At APL, Lynne developed a strong passion for community building through collaboration. In retirement, she is enjoying serving on several boards, volunteering, traveling, going to the gym in the daytime, and keeping up with reading for multiple book clubs.

 

Lynne received a BS from ISU in psychology and women’s studies. She is one of the rare Story County natives who stayed put.  She and her spouse, Navid Emami, live in Nevada in Lynne’s childhood home, and appreciate the small town living that Iowa offers.

Jan Williams,  Vice President

 

Jan Williams, a Mason City, IA native, has lived in Ames for over two decades. Jan graduated from Iowa State University with a Psychology degree and Sociology Minor and after living and working in Des Moines for seven years, returned to Cyclone County! She works at First National Bank as a Vice President & Private Banker. Her current community involvement includes Co-Chair of the Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games, Heartland Senior Services of Story County, Ames Morning Rotary, American Heart Association, and Habitat for Humanity. Jan’s family includes her husband Scott, and kids Hannah and Mason, all avid Cyclones! And Labradoodle Dharma!

Spare time includes attending Cyclones events, walks around Ada Hayden Park and baking, hence the walking!

Jill Klindt

Jill Klindt, Treasurer

Jill is a Lake View, Iowa native but has lived in Ames since attending Iowa State University. She graduated in 1998 with a major in accounting. Jill and her husband Todd married in 2002 and have three children: Lily, Penny and Owen.

Jill loves living in Ames. Even when working for many years in Des Moines, moving was never a consideration. Jill is now vice president and chief accounting officer for Workiva Inc. and has been with the company

Anne Nelson, Secretary

Anne is an Ames native who, after living in Chicago and West Des Moines for 9 years, returned in 2008 when her husband Chris bought in to the family business, Nelson Electric, a company that has been in Ames since 1908.  Anne is a 1990 graduate of Ames High School.  She has degrees from Iowa State University (B.S. Biochemistry, 1994) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.S. Food Science, 1996).   Anne works for Vanguard Sciences, a food testing lab based in South Dakota.  Her current community involvement includes work with Family Ambassadors/Ames Community School District, Raising Readers of Story County, Fellows Elementary School, Cub Scouts Pack 196, First United Methodist Church, and the Iowa State women’s Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity.  Anne and Chris have three children, Erik, Ian, and Evan.  Her husband Chris currently serves on the Ames City Council.  

Sheila Lundt

Sheila Lundt
 

A Gladbrook, Iowa native, Sheila Lundt attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1978 with a double major in political science and international studies. After considering law school, Sheila chose to remain at Iowa State and earned a master's in political science (public administration curriculum) in 1982.

Sheila began her professional career in the Webster City city manager’s office in early 1980 and worked there for four-and-a-half years. From there, she returned to Ames as the city’s budget officer, and in 1987, joined the city manager’s office. She retired from her position as assistant city manager in April 2012.

Sheila’s brother and his family live in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She is an committed fan of Iowa State athletics

 

Jeff Iles

Jeff Iles
 

Jeff relocated to central Iowa in 1987 to attend graduate school at Iowa State and now can’t imagine living anywhere else. Currently he serves as professor and chair of the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University. He teaches, conducts applied research, and provides Extension programming in the areas of landscape plant establishment and maintenance, woody plant evaluation, and nursery and garden center management. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in horticulture from Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa State, respectively. Between degrees, Jeff worked in the retail garden center segment of the green industry, first in suburban Detroit, Michigan, and later in Littleton, Colorado.

Jeff is a member of the Rotary Club of Ames and serves on the board of directors for the Brenton Arboretum (Dallas Center, IA) and the Iowa Arboretum (Madrid, IA). In his spare time he is an ice hockey referee and an avid cyclist. 

 

Lisa Frerichs

Amanda Moorman
 

Amanda moved to Ames in 2014 when her husband, Justin, started working at Moorman Clothiers in downtown Ames. Amanda currently works at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Des Moines. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, she worked as a Financial Analyst for John Deere in Kansas City, Moline, IL, and Johnston, IA.

Justin and Amanda were married in 2009 and have a son, Jackson and a daughter, Allison. They are excited to be raising their family in such a wonderful city!

Amanda received a Finance degree from Wartburg College in 2009 and an MBA in Economics and Strategic Management from the University of Chicago: Booth School of Business in 2014. She current serves on Wartburg’s Leadership National Advisory Board, the Young Professionals of Ames Board, and on the Stewardship committee for Ames Ascension Lutheran Church.

Austin Woodin

Melissa Rowan 

Melissa Rowan is the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at the ISU Foundation. In this role she staffs the Foundation's volunteer board and governors, heads up the strategic planning initiative, and serves as the public information officer. Before her time at Iowa State Melissa spent ten years at the Florida State University Foundation in Tallahassee, FL in various capacities.


Melissa received her BA in history from Iowa State, where she worked at the Foundation as a student, in 1998. She completed her masters in public administration from Florida State in 2009. Her active involvement in the Ames community has included the Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary, the United Way Young Leaders Society, and the Ames Parks and Rec Commission to name a few. She and her husband Pat live in the south campus neighborhood and enjoy all that living so close to Iowa State University has to offer

Ryan Haaland

Ryan is an attorney at Davis Brown Law Firm. He lived in Ames from 2011-2015 and has lived in Huxley since then with his wife Jamie, son James, and daughter Sadie. He enjoys reading, camping, and being outdoors. He is on the Story County Bar Association. His favorite thing about Ames/Story County is the small community and Iowa State University.

Kyle Woiwood

Kyle is a Tax Manager at LWBJ. He has lived in Ames since 2015, previously living in Minneapolis working at PwC in the Financial Services Tax Department. He graduated from UNI with a degree in Accounting and passed the CPA exam in 2011. He and his wife, Chelsea, have 2 dogs, a wirehaired mix Zoey and a dashshund Dobby. He enjoys visiting family and friends, golfing, and trying new craft breweries. He is the current Treasurer of the Volunteer Center of Story County, graduated member of Leadership Ames Class XXX, and a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs- Tax Committee. His favorite thing about Ames/Story County is how active the community is, both physically and professionally. There are so many opportunities to get involved in various groups and organizations in the community.

Tanner Winterhof

Tanner is a VP and Commercial Banker at Vision Bank. He has lived in Huxley since 2014 with his wife, Allie and 2 daughters Gabby and Cami. He enjoys playing golf, helping their families farm, and volunteering. He is on the Ames Chamber Membership Committee and the VCSC Board President. His favorite thing about Ames/Story County is the number of times he has witnessed the community come together for a cause, project, or event just as a small town would.

Nick Johnson

Nick moved to Ames in 2012 and is the General Manager and an owner of Ames Ford Lincoln.  He grew up in the Midwest and really enjoys the character of the city and the wonderful people of this community.  Nick and his wife Jordan were married in 2016 and are looking forward to starting a family.

Currently Nick serves on the Story County Medical Center Board of Trustees, Co-Chairs the United Way’s YLS Board, and serves as a guest lecturer at Iowa State University.  He previously served as the Vice President of the African American Museum of Iowa state board.  In his spare time Nick enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends.

Nate Rippke

As an Ames native, Nate Rippke has a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Iowa State University. Nate has been co-owner of Rippke Design since 2010. Nate is married to Ashley (the other half of Rippke Design), with two children (Elsa and Nase), and two dachshunds (Izzy and Bean). When not developing websites, he enjoys coffee, spending time with family, and hunting for mid-century furniture.

Joshua Shields

Josh grew up in southern Iowa near the town of Grand River and moved to Ames to attend Iowa State University where he graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 2002.  He is currently a Senior Project Landscape Architect with Bolton & Menk, Inc.  Josh is currently in his 3rd year as an Ames Foundation board member and has enjoyed donating time and talents to many of the organization’s community betterment programs; including tree planting, signage design, airport beautification and assistance with the Miracle Park and Inclusive Playground. 

Tammy Stegman 

 

Tammy is an Ames native with some brief excursions to Cedar Falls for college and living in the Chicago area for four years. Her and her husband, Phil, returned to Ames in 1997 and have been here ever since. Tammy has worked at Iowa State University in Career Services since 2007. She considers herself lucky to prepare students professionally and connect them with employers for internships and post-graduation positions. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master's of Education from Iowa State University.

Tammy's family includes her husband and two daughters (Josie and Jenna) who attend Iowa State University and another University to the east. In her spare time, she likes to try all things new, hang out with her family (and cats), visit local coffee shops, and read!


LIAISONS TO THE BOARD

Amy Howard

Ames Chamber of Commerce Staff Liaison 

Amy is an Iowa native. Born in Sioux City and now lives in Jewell, Iowa with her husband Brian. Together they have four adult children and four grand dogs!
Amy attend Des Moines Area Community College prior to beginning her career at Oakland Corporation in Story City, Iowa. As the Office Coordinator, Amy managed all aspects of day to day operations and was front line customer service, troubleshooting all client concerns and issues prior to moving them to customer support. Her career moved to the Ames, Iowa market taking a shared position with the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Ames Chamber of Commerce. A full time Economic Development Coordinator position opened with the Ames Chamber of Commerce and Amy transitioned to that position which began her 15-year tenure. The Director of Finance and Administration position was the next shift in Amy’s career field. This position has evolved to a Vice President position. In this role, she manages the day to day operations of all facilities, equipment, and finances of the Ames Chamber of Commerce and its affiliate organizations as well as The Ames Chamber of Commerce Foundation and serves as the staff liaison to The Ames Foundation.

Cathy Brown

Sarah Lawrence

Ex-Officio Member

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas, and a Masters in Sociology from Southern Illinois University. In 2018, she relocated to Ames from Carbondale, IL where she gained valuable experience working as an instructor for the School of Architecture at Southern Illinois University, and eventually joined the City of Carbondale staff as a City Planner.  The combination of university and city experience is serving her well in her new role as a Campus Planner at Iowa State University where she also participates in the International Town and Gown Association, and in community associations such as the Ames Area MPO Technical Committee. Sarah is excited to continue to learn about, and engage with the Ames community.
