Board Members

Lynne Carey, President-elect

Lynne Carey is Director of the Ames Public Library. She began her tenure at Ames Public Library  as a temporary hourly worker while attending Iowa State University, fell in love with its mission and never left. In her 33 years at Ames Public Library she has worked in virtually every area of the library.


Lynne received a BS from Iowa State University in psychology and women’s studies. She is one of the rare Story County natives who stayed put.  She and her spouse, Navid Emami, live in Nevada in Lynne’s childhood home, and appreciate the small town living that Iowa offers. 



Randi Peters

Jason Crawford

Jason is an Ames native and has spent all but four years of his life as a resident. Jason graduated from Iowa State in 2009 with a degree in Marketing. During that time he enlisted as an infantryman with the Marine Corps and deployed twice to Iraq (2004-05, 2007-08). Currently Jason is a Program Manager with Workiva, where he has been since 2011. 

Jason and his wife Jess were married in 2001 and have five children: Caedmon (10), Easton (9), Reagan (7), and Josephine (3). Jason enjoys spending time with family, bodybuilding, and watching the Cubs. 

In addition to the Ames Foundation Jason is active in Cornerstone Church where he teaches second grade Sunday School, and helps lead a middle school group. 


Anne Nelson, Secretary

Anne is an Ames native who, after living in Chicago and West Des Moines for 9 years, returned in 2008 when her husband Chris bought in to the family business, Nelson Electric, a company that has been in Ames since 1908.  Anne is a 1990 graduate of Ames High School.  She has degrees from Iowa State University (B.S. Biochemistry, 1994) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.S. Food Science, 1996).   Anne works for Vanguard Sciences, a food testing lab based in South Dakota.  Her current community involvement includes work with Family Ambassadors/Ames Community School District, Raising Readers of Story County, Fellows Elementary School, Cub Scouts Pack 196, First United Methodist Church, and the Iowa State women’s Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity.  Anne and Chris have three children, Erik, Ian, and Evan.  Her husband Chris currently serves on the Ames City Council.  


Justin Dodge

Justin Dodge, President

Justin became a third generation Iowa Stater (finance '01) when he moved to Ames in 1998, when he also met his wife, Andrea Hammes Dodge.  Currently Justin coordinates new residential subdivisions and commercial property for Hunziker Development.

Justin serves on the City of Ames Electric Utilities board, Treasurer for the Greek Alumni Alliance, 2nd Vice President for the Ames Homebuilders Association, State Director for the Homebuilders Association of Iowa and is on the Iowa State - Delta Tau Delta House Corporation board.


Jeff Iles

Jeff Iles, Immediate Past President

Jeff relocated to central Iowa in 1987 to attend graduate school at Iowa State and now can’t imagine living anywhere else. Currently he serves as professor and chair of the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University. He teaches, conducts applied research, and provides Extension programming in the areas of landscape plant establishment and maintenance, woody plant evaluation, and nursery and garden center management. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in horticulture from Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa State, respectively. Between degrees, Jeff worked in the retail garden center segment of the green industry, first in suburban Detroit, Michigan, and later in Littleton, Colorado.

Jeff is a member of the Rotary Club of Ames and serves on the board of directors for the Brenton Arboretum (Dallas Center, IA) and the Iowa Arboretum (Madrid, IA). In his spare time he is an ice hockey referee and an avid cyclist. 


Jill Klindt

Jill Klindt, Treasurer

Jill is a Lake View, Iowa native but has lived in Ames since attending Iowa State University. She graduated in 1998 with a major in accounting. Jill and her husband Todd married in 2002 and have three children: Lily, Penny and Owen.

Jill loves living in Ames. Even when working for many years in Des Moines, moving was never a consideration. Jill is now vice president and chief accounting officer for Workiva Inc. and has been with the company since 2008. She also serves on the Ames Economic Development Commission Board.


Sheila Lundt

Sheila Lundt,

Past President

A Gladbrook, Iowa native, Sheila Lundt attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1978 with a double major in political science and international studies. After considering law school, Sheila chose to remain at Iowa State and earned a master's in political science (public administration curriculum) in 1982.

Sheila began her professional career in the Webster City city manager’s office in early 1980 and worked there for four-and-a-half years. From there, she returned to Ames as the city’s budget officer, and in 1987, joined the city manager’s office. She retired from her position as assistant city manager in April 2012. Now as a volunteer, Sheila serves on the Story County Mental Health/Criminal Justice Task Force and the Central Iowa Emergency Services Chaplaincy advisory board.

Sheila’s brother and his family live in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She is an committed fan of Iowa State athletics as well as an avid gardener.


Lisa Frerichs

Amanda Moorman

Amanda moved to Ames in 2014 when her husband, Justin, started working at Moorman Clothiers in downtown Ames. Amanda currently works at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in Des Moines. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, she worked as a Financial Analyst for John Deere in Kansas City, Moline, IL, and Johnston, IA.

Justin and Amanda were married in 2009 and have a son, Jackson and a daughter, Allison. They are excited to be raising their family in such a wonderful city!

Amanda received a Finance degree from Wartburg College in 2009 and an MBA in Economics and Strategic Management from the University of Chicago: Booth School of Business in 2014. She current serves on Wartburg’s Leadership National Advisory Board, the Young Professionals of Ames Board, and on the Stewardship committee for Ames Ascension Lutheran Church.


Austin Woodin

Melissa Rowan 

Melissa Rowan is the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at the ISU Foundation. In this role she staffs the Foundation's volunteer board and governors, heads up the strategic planning initiative, and serves as the public information officer. Before her time at Iowa State Melissa spent ten years at the Florida State University Foundation in Tallahassee, FL in various capacities.

Melissa received her BA in history from Iowa State, where she worked at the Foundation as a student, in 1998. She completed her masters in public administration from Florida State in 2009. Her active involvement in the Ames community has included the Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary, the United Way Young Leaders Society, and the Ames Parks and Rec Commission to name a few. She and her husband Pat live in the south campus neighborhood and enjoy all that living so close to Iowa State University has to offer


John A. Tillo

John A. Tillo

John is a partner in the Pasley & Singer Law Firm, L.L.P. in Ames. He was born in Ames and graduated from Iowa State University in 2006 with a B.A. in political science and a minor in French. (He regrets not pursuing those last two credits to obtain a major in French as well!) John has lived in Lyon, France, Washington, D.C. and Chicago, Illinois, but chose to return to Ames in 2012 to raise a family with his wife, Sophia Magill, and to contribute to, and benefit from, the wonderful community that is Ames!  They have two beautiful children, William and Gabrielle.

In addition to volunteering with the Ames Foundation, John participates in and organizes litter and roadside clean-ups for his law firm, and looks for other ways to be randomly involved and engaged in the city of Ames. He is particularly proud of the Ames Community Tree Program.

In his leisure time, John enjoys spending time with his family, nature, attending ISU sporting events, traveling, and, when he gets a chance, playing basketball, golf and soccer.


Nick Johnson

Nick moved to Ames in 2012 and is the General Manager and an owner of Ames Ford Lincoln.  He grew up in the Midwest and really enjoys the character of the city and the wonderful people of this community.  Nick and his wife Jordan were married in 2016 and are looking forward to starting a family.

Currently Nick serves on the Story County Medical Center Board of Trustees, Co-Chairs the United Way’s YLS Board, and serves as a guest lecturer at Iowa State University.  He previously served as the Vice President of the African American Museum of Iowa state board.  In his spare time Nick enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends.

Nate Rippke

As an Ames native, Nate Rippke has a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Iowa State University. Nate has been co-owner of Rippke Design since 2010. Nate is married to Ashley (the other half of Rippke Design), with two children (Elsa and Nase), and two dachshunds (Izzy and Bean). When not developing websites, he enjoys coffee,

Joshua Shields

Josh grew up in Southern Iowa near the town of Grand River and  first moved to Ames in 1997 to attend Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2002.  After graduating from ISU, he spent 18 months working for the Philadelphia Support Office of the National Park Service before returning to Ames to pursue a career as a professional landscape architect.  Josh is currently a  Project Landscape Architect in Bolton & Menk’s Ames Office and assists the firm with numerous municipal and planning projects.


Josh is finishing his term as President of the Iowa Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects; currently in the capacity of Past-President.  He graduated from Leadership Ames Class XXVI and served as a Co-Chair for Classes XXVII and XXVIII (all the best classes ever!).  He is thankful to be able to assist neighbors and members of a large family (2 sisters and 5 brothers) with home improvement projects, relishes time outdoors with his dog Bear, enjoys running and cross-country skiing on area trails and tending his extensive vegetable garden during warmer weather.  Above all, Josh is cardinal and gold, through and through, and enjoys attending numerous ISU sporting events.

Jan Williams

Jan Williams, a Mason City, IA native, has lived in Ames for over two decades. Jan graduated from Iowa State University with a Psychology degree and Sociology Minor and after living and working in Des Moines for seven years, returned to Cyclone County! She works at First National Bank as a Vice President & Private Banker. Her current community involvement includes Co-Chair of the Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games, Heartland Senior Services of Story County, Ames Morning Rotary, American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity, and Mary Greeley Medical Centers Hope Gala. Jans family includes her husband Scott, and kids Hannah and Mason, all avid Cyclones! And Labradoodle Dharma!

Spare time includes attending Cyclones events, walks around Ada Hayden Park and baking, hence the walking!


Andrea Hammes Dodge

Ames Chamber of Commerce Staff Liaison 

Andrea is the Ames Chamber of Commerce Staff Liaison for the Ames Foundation. As the Director of Public Relations for the Chamber, Andrea oversees the communications and marketing for the Chamber and provides support to Chamber affiliates. In addition to her role with the Ames Foundation, she also serves as the lead staff for the Leadership Ames program.

Andrea first moved to Ames when she was an undergrad student at Iowa State University (B.A. 2001) and returned later as a graduate student (M.Ed. 2008). She has nearly 20 years’ experience working for a variety of nonprofit organizations, including the American Red Cross of Central Maryland, Iowa State University Foundation, Iowa State University Extension, and most recently the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation. She and her husband Justin live in Ames, and together they enjoy biking with their RAGBRAI team and cheering on the Cyclones!


Cathy Brown

Cathy and her husband Leroy have been residents of Ames since 1980 and raised two sons, DJ and Casey, while making Ames their home. Cathy serves as an assistant director of campus and physical planning in the Facilities Planning and Management Department at Iowa State University.

As a member of The Ames Foundation's board of directors, Cathy has served several terms over the past 15 years. She has been active on a number of committees for special events in the community including RAGBRAI, Special Olympics National Games, Odyssey of the Mind, and the NCAA Midwest Regional Basketball Tournament Site Committee. Cathy has also served on community committees including Ames Area MPO Technical  and Policy Committees, Ames University Impacted Area Advisory, Story County Zoning and Subdivision Code Review and Ames Area Long-range Transportation Plan.


Stacy Dreyer

Ames Chamber of Commerce Board Liaison

Stacy and her husband Gene moved to Ames in the late nineties when Gene returned to school to use his GI Bill after serving in the Air Force. They fell in love with Ames and made the area their home. They currently reside in Gilbert with their son, Oliver.

Stacy is employed at First National Bank as a Vice President and Private Banker. Her current community involvement includes serving as a board member for the Ames Chamber of Commerce, Mary Greeley Foundation, ChildServe Ames, and Gilbert Athletic Boosters.


Jim Mason

Jim Mason

Chair, City Beautification Committee

Jim Mason, a Belmond, Iowa native, graduated with a degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University in 1976. In 1981, Jim co-founded Country Landscapes, Inc. which has offices in Ames, Clear Lake and North Liberty. Jim's family includes his wife Pam, daughter Jackie, and golden retriever Sassi.

Jim joined The Ames Foundation's board of directors in 1996 and now chairs the project committee. He has served on the Ames Public Library Foundation, and is a past president of the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Western Nursery and Landscape Association. Jim serves on the ISU Department of Horticulture's advisory committee, on the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation board, and is an active member of the Ames Noon Rotary Club. Jim is currently an adjunct instructor of horticulture at DMACC's Ankeny campus.
